History of Faucets

It all started when the Romans began to connect their water connections to Knobs, Handles and Levers to control the water flow in their Fountains and private bathtubs. Initially, they had separate handles for hot and cold water, but with experience, they developed single-lever control switches to mix the hot and cold temperatures of water. Al Moen was the man behind inventing the first ever single lever faucet, which would allow people to adjust the temperature of a single stream of water to achieve their desired temperature.

As time passed, faucets encountered an increasing number of advancements. Filters to decrease impurities, spray hoses that can be pulled out of the sink, electronic/sensor faucets, and differently-abled friendly faucets are a few of these advancements.

To enable people to use faucets without touching the handles for turning on the flow, sensor faucets are becoming a standard fitting in public restrooms. These sensor faucets are more hygienic than standard faucets because users only need to hold their hands in front of a sensor to turn on the water.

Top Materials for Faucet Manufacturing

When it comes to durability, price, and fixture design, various metal coatings each have specific advantages. Bathroom faucet bodies can be made of PTMT, brass, steel, zinc, or any combination of these.

  • Brass

Pure brass ingot or virgin brass is one of the most widely used raw materials for Faucet manufacturing. With the different trends in the market, some brass faucets are chrome plated to give them that silver glossy look, while others are left in their original colour give that traditional aesthetic. The brass used in faucets is absolutely lead-free and does not rust or corrode due to moisture or water.

  • PTMT

Faucets made from this popular plastic polymer are super versatile and come in a variety of colours. The PTMT material has a high level of endurance against extreme water temperatures and the polymer does not rust, rot, melt or peel as an effect of climatic conditions or water. This is one rough and tough material that can be used for both indoor and outdoor installations.

  • Stainless Steel

Some bathrooms may benefit from stainless steel faucets. Poor quality stainless steel faucets, on the other hand, are more likely to corrode, and stainless steel faucets typically don't last as long as the solid brass type. Additionally, compared to a brass faucet, the extra expense may not be justified because stainless steel is often a little more expensive.

  • Zinc

These faucets are rare because of the material’s low durability. They might be cheaper but when it comes to bathroom fittings like faucets, people want more durable and long-lasting ones, as they do not wish to change these often.

Why do top faucet manufacturer brands use brass primarily?

Brass is an economical, durable and non-rusting material that is ideal for faucet manufacturing. The material is flexible enough to be moulded in multiple faucets shapes and sizes and is tough enough for daily usage.

How long brass faucets are good for health?

When pure brass material comes in contact with the mineral-rich water from the pipeline, it releases purifying and anti-microbial ions into the water flow. This makes the water healthy and good for consumption.
